Early Years

We Are a Shining Light to the Nations

Early Stage of Education

In the early years at St. Adelaide International Schools, we take the approach that each child is unique, has special talents and abilities, and has an individual learning style. We acknowledge that children develop and learn in different ways and at different rates, and we believe that all areas of learning and development are equally important and interconnected.

We see our children as naturally competent learners from birth, resilient, capable, confident, and self-assured, and have designed a program to build on these qualities, developing positive supportive relationships to nurture an inquisitive approach to learning where making mistakes is viewed as an important part of the learning process. In educating our children to become strong, responsible, and independent learners, our teachers recognize that the learning environment plays a key role in supporting and extending a child’s development.

Our Nursery through Foundation to Reception classes offer a holistic, safe, and caring learning environment that promotes physical, mental, and emotional health and well-being with good communication skills as part of the core curriculum. We place a lot of emphasis on the development of important biblical passages through Bible studies, literacy and numeracy abilities, artistic talents and interests, and general knowledge and comprehension of the world. In addition to the core curriculum, we also offer a rich program of class trips and extracurricular activities and work in close partnership with parents to support our children on their learning journey from nursery to reception.

Our curriculum is not only providing children with academics and skills but also building good character, which is becoming our other concern. We equip children with a character-building curriculum that is Bible-based. This complete package gives children a solid foundation for pursuing their life goals.

We have four levels in this early stage of education:

Toddler (2–3 years old): where we form the foundation of learning and exploring through play that allows a child to learn in a natural and relaxed way. Students learn the basics of motor skills and social interaction with peers and adults. Preschool (3–4 years old): students continue to explore and start expressing themselves. Speaking, listening, and writing skills are taught and integrated with character building. Language development as well as thinking and motor skills are developed in this stage.

Kindergarten 1 (4–5 years old): building on the skills they possess, and more emphasis is given to the development of reading skills through our leveled reading program. Students start to read and write using phonetics in English, learn the basic strokes in Mandarin, and start to do simple numeracy. We develop and nurture good social skills as well as character building.

Kindergarten 2 (5–6 years old): consolidation of reading, phonics, spelling in phonetics, comprehension, and numeracy skills is the focus of the preparation for primary education. Students will improve their self-help skills and be trained to be independent. Basic music and physical movement are given for all levels. A theme-based approach is used for better results.
